"Our media are the streets...Abortion will end when the People of God say so.  Now is the time for people of every religious and political background to join together to stop the killing.  When we come out on the streets, we always win.  Fewer babies die and more consciences are stirred to action, starting with our own."
~ Fr. Frank Pavone, Speaking about 40 Days for Life, 9/24/08 ~

What can YOU do in these last 5 days to ensure  Initiative 1000 is STOPPED?  Don't let assisted suicide be legalized in Washington on our watch!

Internal polls of the Coalition Against Assisted Suicide, the group coordinating the campign against I-1000, indicate that this race is very close.  The momentum is with our side.

There are 2 main things that need to happen for us to win:
First:  We need to Get our Message Out.
Second:  We need to Get our Voters Out (GOTV).

Below are some options for helping achieve  the objectives above.  Please review and choose at least 2 of these options so that we may protect all Washingtonians from legalized assisted suicide.

    1.  Financial Option: Financially support the powerful and critically important "air war" – tv/radio commercials produced by the Coalition Against Assisted Suicide.  View/listen here:  www.NoAssistedSuicide.com  Contribute here:  Contribute
First-time and repeat donations are most welcome.  Credit card donations are optimal, if possible, because they allow the money to be used right away and time is so short.

    2.  Shoeleather Option: (aka the "ground campaign"). Distribute Coalition leaflets outside people's homes (no ringing of the doorbell/knocking is required; no detailed knowledge of the flaws of the initiative is needed–just drop the leaflet in the door jamb and walk to the next house.)  This should be done as soon as possible because people are voting every single day.

    3.  Prayer & Adoration Option: (the other "air war").  This will help all facets of the campaign!

    4.  Fast & Abstinence Option: (fasting only within comfortable health parameters, please!).

    5.  Get Out The Vote (GOTV) Option:  Email and call everyone in your own circle of influence to educate them that A) I-1000 is on the ballot, B) that I-1000 is dangerous and should be emphatically rejected (see Coalition leaflet or website for key talking points), and then C) urge them to get their ballot completed and turned in.  An astonishing number of "Values Voters" did not vote in the 2006 general election in WA--only 8% voted!  (575,000 fewer than 2 years earlier)...So assume nothing when calling to check with life-minded family and friends.

    6. Sign waving:  "No on I-1000" signs will be provided.  Contact marie@noassistedsuicide.com if you want to help.

If we don't stop this assault on the culture of life, right here, right now when it's relatively easy to do so, we'll deeply regret it.  We will be fighting for respect for life on 2 flanks, at the beginning and at the end of life.  The effects will spill beyond our borders too as suicide advocates will be emboldened to push for assisted suicide in multiple other states as well.  (As of last week, over 2/3 of the pro-I-1000 campaign's money was from out of staters including 3 individuals who collectively contributed nearly 1 million dollars.)  The domestic and international death movements will be jubiliant and we will be distraught.   We have the unique opportunity--and obligation--to defeat this heartless, hopeless, misbegotten assisted suicide initiative.....WE CAN DEFEAT I-1000.....Many hands makes light work...Please help!

THIRD BABY SAVED THIS FALL at
OLYMPIA'S 40 DAYS FOR LIFE!!!
THAT WE KNOW OF !!!

On Monday, October 20th, 40 Days for Life sidewalk counselor Theresa DeGoede and her sons, had the opportunity to speak with a girl who was going into Olympia’s Planned Parenthood for an abortion.  In fact, it was Theresa’s three young sons who were very instrumental in the saving of the unborn baby’s life.

Theresa was indisposed at the time the girl had arrived for the “procedure.” Thus, it was the boys who made first contact and spoke with the girl for some time while another son went to retrieve their mother.

Theresa arrived and after considerable discussion, including the use of the little unborn baby model and card, the girl chose life for her baby!  What a blessing!

We will be helping her, and at this time, she is considering adoption.

Just a note:  Theresa was instrumental in the saving of a baby last year at 40 Days for Life.

PRAISE GOD !!!
God bless you and yours,
Ed Sauley

Scranton Bishop's Letter for Respect Life Sunday

"I Beg You Not to Be Misled by Confusion and Lies"

SCRANTON, Pennsylvania, OCT. 3, 2008 (Zenit.org).- Here is the text of the pastoral letter Bishop Joseph Martino of Scranton released ahead of Respect Life Sunday, to be celebrated this weekend. The bishop has asked the letter to be read at all Masses over the weekend in place of the homily, and a copy placed in all parish bulletins.

My brothers and sisters in Christ,

The American Catholic bishops initiated Respect Life Sunday in 1972, the year before the Supreme Court legalized abortion in the United States. Since that time, Catholics across the country observe the month of October with devotions and pro-life activities in order to advance the culture of life. This October, our efforts have more significance than ever. Never have we seen such abusive criticism directed toward those who believe that life begins at conception and ends at natural death.

As Catholics, we should not be surprised by these developments. Forty years ago, Pope Paul VI predicted that widespread use of artificial contraceptives would lead to increased marital infidelity, lessened regard for women, and a general lowering of moral standards especially among the young. Forty years later, social scientists, not necessarily Catholics, attest to the accuracy of his predictions. As if following some bizarre script, the sexual revolution has produced widespread marital breakdown, weakened family ties, legalized abortion, sexually transmitted diseases, pornography, same-sex unions, euthanasia, destruction of human embryos for research purposes and a host of other ills. PAULA RANNEY GUEST COLUMN: Assisted Suicide I-1000 Is a Bad Idea

Poulsbo, Oct. 2, 2008 (Kitsap Sun)
I am an attorney who has studied I-1000, the Washington Death with Dignity Act. Initiative 1000 is not about dignity, it's about assisted suicide.

For starters, I-1000 uses sanitized language in an attempt to soften the tragedy of suicide. The initiative says that the act does not authorize assisted suicide, even though it allows a physician to prescribe lethal drugs to a patient. In fact, I-1000 would ban the term "assisted suicide" from state reports, replacing it with the sterile, clinical sounding phrase "obtaining and self-administering life-ending medication." Painting stripes on a donkey won't make it behave like a zebra. Changing the language is deceptive and will only delude us into denying the reality of a violent act. Read more...

Famous Mexican actor rips Obama over abortion, warns U.S. Latinos

Los Angeles, Sep 24, 2008 / 04:34 pm (CNA).- The movie star Eduardo Verástegui has recorded a special video message to encourage Hispanic voters in the U.S. to put an end to abortion and to expose the radical abortion position of presidential candidate Barack Obama.

Verástegui, who is perhaps best known in the U.S. for his pro-life film "Bella," presents his challenge to Latino voters by calling attention to the fact that most abortion clinics are located in Hispanic neighborhoods and that the Spanish media is saturated with pro-abortion advertising.

“Abortion is not only a lucrative industry; it is also used by people who are racist as a means to eliminate our people, since they consider us to be a threat to democracy in this country,” Verástegui asserts.  Read more...
