November 2007

This Thanksgiving, please remember to give thanks for The Honorable Ronald Leighton, the logical and fair-minded federal district court judge who recently ruled in favor of pharmacists and Olympia pharmacy owner, Kevin Stormans as they sought to protect their endangered right of conscience.
The requested Temporary Injunction against the Board of Pharmacy Rules going into effect was granted and the trial regarding the request for Permanent Injunction against the Rules is scheduled for October 2008, also in Tacoma before Judge Leighton.
Please take a moment from your busy day to write the judge a brief note of thanks for upholding Constitutional protections granted to all since the founding of this great nation. Those who were able to attend the Oral Arguments on September 26, 2007 in Tacoma were universally impressed with Judge Leighton's command of both the details of the case and the enormous significance of it. If you are in the health professions, please indicate this in your note.
The Honorable Ronald Leighton

"As this audience already knows, Christian
reverence for the unborn child is no medieval development. It
comes from the very beginnings of our faith. The early Church
had no debates over politicians and communion. There wasn't
any need. No persons who tolerated or promoted abortion would
have dared to approach the Eucharistic table, let alone dared
to call themselves true Christians. And here's why: The
early Christians understood that they were the offspring of
a new worldwide family of God. They saw the culture around them
as a culture of death, a society that was slowly extinguishing
itself. In fact, when you read early Christian literature, practices
like adultery and abortion are often described as part of 'the
way of death' or the 'way of the [devil].'"

Pharmacists in Washington
won a victory yesterday when a federal judge halted
a new state requirement forcing them to fill prescriptions
for all drugs, including those that would violate
their moral or religious beliefs. Under pressure
from pro-abortion Gov. Chris Gregoire, the pharmacy
board approved the rules earlier this year.
Kevin Stormans, who owns pharmacies in the state,
filed a lawsuit along with other pharmacists in
July seeking to overturn the new rules.
The
medical professionals say the law
forces them into choosing between their livelihoods
and their deeply held religious and moral beliefs."

Today, record numbers of believers across our nation are taking to the streets and sidewalks of their towns, holding coordinated prayer vigils outside of Planned Parenthood centers and other abortion facilities.
Tomorrow, the 40 Days for Life campaign draws to a close, with events and celebrations in many cities.
So where do we go from here?
The abortion industry believes that we are going to simply fade away. They fully expect us to settle back into complacency, leaving them free to continue their deadly business without hindrance.
After all of the miracles we’ve seen God accomplish throughout 40 Days for Life, are we going to allow that to happen?
Last night I spoke to a large gathering of enthusiastic 40 Days for Life participants from across the state of Washington in their capital, Olympia, and I addressed that exact question.
The intensity in the room was electrifying.

FYI
- I checked some numbers
Bella made about $1.3 million over the weekend,
putting it 17th overall of movies showing in the
US. The winner was "Saw IV", which made $31.8
million. :-(
HOWEVER. Bella was showing at 165 theatres. Only
one of the top 12 films was showing at less than
1600 theaters, 10 times as many (and only 5 movies
in the top 20 showed at less than 1000 theaters
- and all of them were over 500).
If we calculate the average $/theatre, Bella
earned about $8000/theatre over the weekend.
ONLY "Saw IV" had a higher average ($9900/theatre).
Only 2 others in the top 20 were even close (about
$6000/theatre) - most were in the $1000-2000 range.
Monday continued the trend - Bella averaged $800/theater,
and most shows were in the $100-200/theater range
(some were $70-90/theater).
If the theater owners are smart, perhaps
they will distribute it to a wider audience over
the next few weeks...
