Obama Stimulus Plan to Pour Millions of Taxpayer Funds into Contraception, Abortion
Pelosi: "Contraception reduces cost to the state"
By Kathleen Gilbert
WASHINGTON, D.C., January 26, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Hundreds of millions of the nearly $1 trillion price tag on President Obama's economic stimulus bill is expected to go to contraception and the abortion industry.
Last week, during consideration of the congressional Democrats’ spending bill by the House Energy & Commerce Committee, the panel made universal a Clinton-era Medicaid waiver that allowed states to seek federal funding for contraception and abortion. Under the new program, the federal government would match state funding for "family planning" services with $9 for every $1.
House Republicans immediately criticized the move, questioning whether such funding actually helped stimulate the economy or create more jobs.
"How you can spend hundreds of millions of dollars on contraceptives – how does that stimulate the economy?" questioned House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH). "You can go through a whole host of issues that have nothing to do with growing jobs in America and helping people keep their jobs.” Read more...

Obama's pro-abortion executive order creates first clash with Vatican
Vatican City, Jan 25, 2009 / 01:06 pm (CNA).- The first sign of Vatican disappointment with the Obama administration came on Saturday, when Holy See officials reacted to the President’s executive order reversing the Mexico City policy, thus making federal money available to promote abortion internationally.
Obama signed the executive order canceling the eight-year-old restrictions on Friday, the third day of his presidency.
In an interview published Saturday in the Italian daily Corriere della Sera, the President of the Pontifical Academy for Life, Archbishop Rino Fisichella said that "among the many good things that he could have done, Barack Obama instead has chosen the worst." Read more...

Obama overturns Mexico City Policy,
pro-lifers react
Washington DC, Jan 23, 2009 / 05:54 pm (CNA).-
Pro-life leaders reacted critically to
President Barack Obama’s Friday reversal of
President George W. Bush’s ban on federal
funding for international groups that
promote or perform abortions. One Latin
American commentator charged that the policy
weakens anti-poverty efforts and had enabled
a coercive sterilization campaign in Peru
under the Clinton administration.
The ban, known as the Mexico City Policy, earned its name from a population conference that took place in the Mexican capital in 1984, where it was introduced by President Ronald Reagan. It was reversed by President Bill Clinton in 1993 and then reinstated by President Bush in 2001.
Controversy particularly focuses upon the mission of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), where an estimated $461 million is at stake. Read more...

President Obama is wasting no time in laying out his anti-life agenda. The following information comes from www.whitehouse.gov/agenda/women:
Health Care
Supporting Stem Cell Research: President Obama and Vice President Biden believe that we owe it to the American public to explore the potential of stem cells to treat the millions of people suffering from debilitating and life-threatening diseases. Obama is a co-sponsor of the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2007, which will allow research of human embryonic stem cells derived from embryos donated (with consent) from in vitro fertilization clinics. These embryos must be deemed in excess and created based solely for the purpose of fertility treatment.
Reproductive Choice
Supports a Woman's Right to Choose: President Obama understands that abortion is a divisive issue, and respects those who disagree with him. However, he has been a consistent champion of reproductive choice and will make preserving women's rights under Roe v. Wade a priority in his Adminstration. He opposes any constitutional amendment to overturn the Supreme Court's decision in that case. Preventing Unintended Pregnancy: President Obama was an original co-sponsor of legislation to expand access to contraception, health information, and preventive services to help reduce unintended pregnancies. Introduced in January 2007, the Prevention First Act will increase funding for family planning and comprehensive sex education that teaches both abstinence and safe sex methods. The Act will also end insurance discrimination against contraception, improve awareness about emergency contraception, and provide compassionate assistance to rape victims.
Now is the time for everyone in the pro-life movement to courageously stand up and witness that all life is sacred from the moment of conception to natural death. Yesterday, approximately 7000 people gave such witness by participating in the Washington State March for Life in Olympia, showing that there is indeed reason for hope.

Krispy Kreme Celebrates Obama with Free “Freedom of Choice” Donuts
Commentary by Judie Brown
Washington, DC, January 15 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The next time you stare down a conveyor belt of slow-moving, hot, sugary glazed donuts at your local Krispy Kreme you just might be supporting President-elect Barack Obama's radical support for abortion on demand – including his sweeping promise to sign the Freedom of Choice Act as soon as he steps in the Oval Office, Jan. 20.
The doughnut giant released the following statement yesterday:
“Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. (NYSE: KKD) is honoring American's sense of pride and freedom of choice on Inauguration Day, by offering a free doughnut of choice to every customer on this historic day, Jan. 20. By doing so, participating Krispy Kreme stores nationwide are making an oath to tasty goodies -- just another reminder of how oh-so-sweet ‘free’ can be.”
Just an unfortunate choice of words? For the sake of our Wednesday morning doughnut runs, we hope so. The unfortunate reality of a post Roe v. Wade America is that "choice" is synonymous with abortion access and celebration of 'freedom of choice' is a tacit endorsement of abortion rights on demand.
President-elect Barack Obama promises to be the most virulently pro-abortion president in history. Millions more children will be endangered by his radical abortion agenda. Read more...

Prevention First Act: Pathological Premises
Wednesday January 14, 2009 at 11:24 am EST by Judie Brown
Immediately after the election, I took the opportunity to share with our readers the facts regarding what would be in store for families, especially the youngest members. The one thing I failed to address is a horrific piece of legislation that has now been officially introduced in the United States Senate. At the time of the election, the Prevention First Act (S. 21) was an established goal in the mind of Senator Harry Reid and his fellow congressional pro-aborts. Since that time, much has occurred and none of it is good for preborn children or for the American family.
It is always a good idea to examine the facts prior to making a value judgment. And in the case of the PFA, the actual details about what this piece of legislation would do are staggering. Rather than reinvent what we have already reported at American Life League's Stop Planned Parenthood web site, allow me to share the analysis:
The Prevention First Act has several components, all of which would fund programs that are promoted by Planned Parenthood and would put millions more of our tax dollars into PP's coffers. Read more...
