Building a culture of life in Washington state

Commentary and News

"I must also mention a further area of grave concern: the policies of those who, claiming to improve the 'social edifice', threaten its very foundations. How bitter the irony of those who promote abortion as a form of 'maternal' healthcare! How disconcerting the claim that the termination of life is a matter of reproductive health."

Eureka! People Can Finally Die With Dignity as First Lethal Prescriptions Issued in Washington State

The assisted suicide movement is celebrating today as the first two lethal prescriptions have been written by death doctors in Washington State. From the story:

Two prescriptions have been filled for life-ending drugs under Washington's new assisted suicide law, state health officials said Thursday.

Health Department spokesman Tim Church said he could not provide any details about the people considering suicide, but the department has received two forms from pharmacists saying they have dispensed the drugs that people say they want to use to end their lives. The department has not received any forms certifying that a person has committed suicide under the state law that took effect in early March.
Dollars to donuts the doctors are affiliated with Compassion and Choices. Moreover, these doctors will lie on the death certificates--if the patients commit suicide. Read more...

Obama: The first 50 days
By Father Alphonse de Valk
Issue: April 2009

Introductory note

Catholic Insight has traced the first 50 days of Barack Obama’s presidency, with regard to both policies and appointments.

Obama has appointed one vice-president, 13 secretaries, four directors, five legal counsels and 13 White House staff for a total of 36 people. Of these, 23 are known to be pro-abortion. Of the remaining 13, only one is known to be pro-life (the secretary of transportation); the views of the others are unknown to us. Of the White House staff, none are known to be pro-life.

In addition, the vice-president, five secretaries and one director (that of the CIA) are Catholics. All of them, however, disown the Church’s teaching on the dignity and protection of all human life, from conception to natural death.

We would appreciate receiving notices of any documentable errors and omissions in this tabulation, so that it may be corrected as need be.

The anti-life assault begins

The election of Barack Obama as president, Catholic Insight stated in a November 3, 2008 press release, would turn out to be a disaster for the advance of a pro-life culture.

On the most important cultural issue of all, the equality and dignity of all human beings before God, he represents the greatest threat today, even more so than the notorious Marxist revolution of 1917 with its attack on the family. That revolution was rejected by the Western world. On the other hand, Obama's leadership is being hailed as a sign of hope across the world and welcomed with open arms. Obama has a 100 per cent approval rating from NARAL Pro-Choice America, the U.S.’s leading pro-abortion organization. That rating is based on a record of consistently voting against the unborn. Washington college students threatened with expulsion for 'discriminatory' pro-life message
ADF attorneys file suit against Community Colleges of Spokane officials for silencing pro-life message on campus

SPOKANE, Wash. — Attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund Center for Academic Freedom filed a lawsuit Monday against Community Colleges of Spokane and Spokane Falls Community College officials for violating the constitutional rights of pro-life students.  SFCC officials threatened Beth Sheeran and members of a Christian student group with disciplinary measures, including expulsion, if they chose to hold a pro-life event on campus to share information with other students because the message was "discriminatory" and did not include a pro-abortion viewpoint.

"Christian students shouldn't be threatened, silenced, and discriminated against for attempting to share their beliefs on public college campuses," said ADF Litigation Staff Counsel Heather Gebelin Hacker.  "But this school goes beyond censorship to actually try to compel the students to make statements they don't believe.  Such a requirement is nothing short of Orwellian."

SFCC Director of Student Funded Programs Heather McKenzie rejected Sheeran's timely request to hold a pro-life event on campus on January 22, the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, that involved flier distribution and materials posted in an announcement display case in the student center.  McKenzie said college policy prohibits one-sided events and expressive displays on campus and that the pro-life display would not be allowed because it did not include any pro-abortion viewpoints.
